Teleios Code Jam held on Thursday 11th March 2010 at UWI St Augustine was well received by students, faculty, sponsors and other invited guests. The team based programming competition, now in its second year was sponsored by Teleios Systems, Microsoft, Ministry of Public Administration and bmobile.
Participating teams from University of the West Indies and University of the Southern Caribbean were asked to build an SMS Application that addressed an assigned category from the Ministry of Public Administration’s National Information Communication Technology Plan goals.
There were nine teams presenting submissions, some of which addressed economic growth, improving education and improvements in public sector agencies. The judging panel consisting of Nigel Sammy Manager-Hosted Services at Teleios, Roger Peters Services Sales Manager- Microsoft and Nigel Forde Senior Product Developer Advisor-bmobile who reviewed the creativity and presentation of the submission to determine the winners.
A team of final year UWI students Yudhistre Jonas, Craig Ramlal and Gyasi Ambrose emerged first place winners with their application for gathering and managing feedback on social equity issues. Second place went to the team of Ramone Graham, Vincent Ramoutar, Darryl Grant and Azeem Mohammed- a group of first year students mentored by Azim Abdool from the University of the West Indies who built an SMS Job Application service. University of the Southern Caribbean rounded out the winners, receiving third place with their SMS PTSC Bus Ticketing service designed by Alana Henry, Bryn Blake, Devon Wade, Dwayne McMillan and mentored by George Mubita.
